The two are not the same at all. Violence is done with the intention of causing harm to someone or something. Self-defense is carried out with the intention of protecting yourself from receiving harm.

They're definitely the same sometimes. Sports are both recreation and entertaining. Some sports are based on methods of fighting, which leads back into self-defense. It just so happens cupcake has been learning how to box, thus violence, distraction and education all in one. Convenient, innit?

Maybe you can't divorce yourself as a person from yourself as a teacher but I can. I'm more than capable of teaching self-defense without harming anyone, but don't fool yourself into thinking it's not violence.

As much as I hate to agree with Charlie's current self-defence teacher, there is a saying that you may have heard before about what constitutes the best defence. Teaching people to defend themselves in a way that is not "fuck the other bastard up as quickly and permanently as possible and run like fuck" is not doing the job properly, because it's just setting up people to get hurt.

I have some stuff that will kind of fit you. If you have jeans I have chaps that shouldn't be too big, though they might be a little long. Jacket and helmet I've got covered, I know you have gloves. Do you have good boots? No heel, above the ankle.

Since you're about four inches taller than me, I've quite come to terms with the fact that they'll be long. But much obliged. I may own a pair of jeans... I shall check. My footwear collection is about ready to move to its own suite so I'm sure I can find something suitable.
